SIDE EFFECTS OF PHOTO-EDITING APPS

SIDE EFFECTS OF PHOTO-EDITING APPS
The British fashion photographer John Rankin Waddell, known professionally as Rankin, took portraits of 15 teenagers and asked them to edit the pictures to make them more social-media friendly. The hyper-retouched images with giant, cartoon-like eyes, pouty lips, and unnaturally glowing skin are nothing short of shocking. The photographer used this approach as part of a project called "Selfie Harm".

“It’s time to acknowledge the damaging effects that social media has on people’s self-image,” Rankin Waddell.

Hi Mayra,
Educating our children on the the harms of self editing in social media should be a priority to all parents in this modern age. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic which increases social media interaction. As adults we should remain informed and make educated decisions regarding how to represent ourselves. It is also important to not discredit beauty whether it be giant eyes and pouty lips or small eyes and small lips.In addition, all types of skin colors.. Instead media should work harder to promote all types of beauty. The more diverse images of female and males we see the more we will l appreciate beauty of all forms.
