SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH/COVID 19

SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH/COVID 19
SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH/COVID 19
Social determinants of health play a significant role in COVID-19 infection and mortality rates. Poverty, crowded housing conditions, and reduced access to health care are some social determinants that many minority populations face daily. Studies have shown that counties in the United States with above average minority populations have more rate of infection and mortality. According to a study conducted by amfAR

" As of July 21, 2020 45% of cases and 52% of deaths are in the 22% of counties that are disproportionately black."

Because there is little data on race and ethnicity of the population getting tested . amfAR used race and ethnicity data from counties to understand disparities of COVID-19 infection and mortality rates among minority populations.
